Netflix succeeds at the Venice Festival, Cruzová or Kerekes and Ostrochovský have awards – ČT24 – Czech Television

The jury was chaired by South Korean director Pon Junun, who is behind the Oscar-winning hit Parasite. Variety magazine noted that Diwan is the sixth woman in history to win the Golden Lion, coincidentally a year after Chloé Zhao took the main statue from Venice for the Land of Nomads, who then triumphed at the Oscars. Zhao also sat on the jury this year.

Netflix succeeded with three films in Venice this year. Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino won the Grand Jury Prize for God’s Hand, in which he returns to his adolescence in Naples, Italy. The poetic film, which will be shown on Netflix from December 15, also has an award for the best young actor for Filippo Scotti.

The best director is New Zealander Jane Campion, who shot the western Síla psa for the streaming company, which will be on view from 1 December. It features Hollywood stars such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst.

Prices also go to Slovakia

Another well-known actress, Maggie Gyllenhaal, unexpectedly received the award for best screenplay for many for her feature adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s book The Dark Daughter. It has not yet premiered on the network. Without the statue, on the other hand, is the drama Spencer, in which, according to many, Kristen Stewart shone in the role of Princess Diana.

In the side section of Orizzonti, the Slovak filmmakers Peter Kerekes and Ivan Ostrochovský, who are behind the prison drama Cenzorka, won the award for the best screenplay. The film, in which, in addition to Slovak and Ukrainian filmmakers, Czech co-producers from Endorfilm and Hypermarket Film also participated, tells the story of a Ukrainian woman who committed a crime of passion for which he is serving a prison sentence. At the same time, she gives birth to her first child.
