Need to know, on how many days did Omicron symptoms appear since the patient was exposed?

Jakarta

Symptoms of infection with the Omicron variant are known to be very similar to the common cold, including a dry cough, runny and stuffy nose, and sore throat. Because at first glance it is as light as the common cold, it is important for people who have been exposed to them from close contact to isolate themselves to prevent transmission. So, on what day since exposure to Omicron symptoms will appear?

Spokesperson for COVID-19 vaccination, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, explained that every COVID-19 patient, especially with the Omicron variant, could take different times to experience symptoms since exposure.

On average, it takes five to six days from exposure for a person to develop symptoms. However, in some other cases, on the third day since exposure, symptoms have appeared.

“(The number of days it takes for symptoms to appear since exposure) is very varied. The incubation period of the virus is 1 to 14 days, some are even 21 days. There are those after 5-6 days, on average only symptoms appear. After 5 days of infection, only the fifth day, symptoms can appear,” said Dr Nadia in a virtual press conference related to the COVID-19 Development Update, Thursday (10/2/2022).

“Some even said that after 3 days the contact was infected from a positive person with COVID the symptoms had appeared. The symptoms were coughing runny nose, sore throat, they tend to be said to be like the common cold,” continued Dr. Nadia.

Furthermore, Dr. Nadia explained, COVID-19 patients may take medicines with green markings that can be purchased freely at stalls to relieve symptoms. However, if the symptoms do not subside, the patient is asked to immediately go to a health care facility for further examination to get proper treatment from a doctor.

“Even though you can buy fever-reducing medicine, but if the fever doesn’t go down, the fever gets worse, going to the health facility immediately will be the best choice. Don’t be late, it will get worse before coming to a health service facility,” he concluded.
