Nearly fifty people were fined on Tuesday in Sicily for having followed a funeral procession despite the ban on gatherings in full
coronavirus epidemic. According to the AGI agency, the procession was moving through the streets of Porto Empedocles, a small town in the west of Sicily.

The procession was heading towards Cemetery when passersby alerted the police. The latter intervened and fined 48 people in total.
The floor will initiate criminal proceedings against the group, according to the Italian agency. They face up to three months in prison and a fine of 206 euros.

Dissertated theses

Sicily has so far registered only around fifty patients coronavirus and no deaths. For its part, Italy as a whole has exceeded 9,000 cases, including 463 dead.

Sicily seems to be the first region in which students have defended their thesis from a distance. The University of Messina on Tuesday awarded diplomas to seven students who defended their thesis by video link. All Italian educational institutions are closed until April 3 under draconian restrictions imposed by the Italian government to stem the epidemic.
