Bundeswehr continues evacuation in Kabul
The Bundeswehr continued its evacuation operation in the Afghan capital Kabul. In the late afternoon another machine took 205 people out of the country. Because of the chaotic conditions at the airport, the evacuation had stalled in the meantime. With two previous flights, only a total of 15 people could be brought to the Uzbek capital Tashkent. There should be big problems especially at the entrances to the airport. Thousands of people are said to still be waiting there. Merkel and Erdogan discuss Afghanistan
Chancellor Merkel spoke to Turkish President Erdogan on the phone about the situation in Afghanistan. A government spokeswoman said afterwards that the two agreed that evacuating vulnerable people from the country remained the highest priority. The work of international organizations such as the United Nations Refugee Agency is to be supported jointly. Hurricane approaches USA

Extreme swimmer Wiersig reaches Heligoland
The extreme swimmer André Wiersig reached Heligoland in the early evening. The 49-year-old from Paderborn started in St. Peter-Ording last night. He covered the almost 50 kilometers long route through the North Sea in a good 18 hours.
