Ironman in Hawaii postponed again

After 2020, there will be no Ironman in Hawaii this year either.

The legendary competition, which is also the triathlon world championship, is canceled again due to the corona pandemic and should be rescheduled in February next year. This was announced by the organizer, which is now planning two competitions in Hawaii for 2022: once in February and once at the usual time in October.

In 2020, the traditional race of 3.86 kilometers of swimming, 180.2 kilometers of cycling and 42.2 kilometers of running was initially postponed due to the pandemic, before it was canceled entirely at the beginning of 2021. The Ironman has been held in Hawaii since 1978. The men have recently won six times and since 2014 only athletes from Germany, the women triumphed in the last edition in October 2019. “Of course I am very disappointed and hope that the World Cup in February can be held in good health and without any risks for everyone,” said Haug. Due to the current situation on site, the decision is “absolutely understandable”.
