NBA postpones match between Celtics and Heat due to Covid-19 outbreak

The League office decided this Sunday to postpone the game that the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat were going to play tonight at the TD Garden due to the coronavirus outbreak suffered by both teams and that prevented them from forming the minimum squad of eight players.

The NBA applied the safety and health protocols within the Heat after this Sunday guard Avery Bradley was ruled out for possible contagion of covid-19 or for having had contact with another person who had it.

Due to continued contact with the Heat, the team does not have the eight available players required by the league to play a game, and could not do so against the Celtics.

The Boston team was ready to play it with a minimum of eight players after nine were ruled out, including seven due to NBA health and safety protocols.

While Kemba Walker (knee) and Romeo Langford (wrist) are injured, the other seven players are subject to the safety and health protocols that the NBA has imposed to fight against coronavirus infections.

Those affected by the protocols include guards Javonte Green and Jaylen Brown, power forwards Jayson Tatum, Semi Ojeleye and Grant Williams, and power guards Robert Williams III and Tristan Thompson.

All of them were available for the game against the Heat and it was not known when they could return, according to what is established by the safety and health protocols of the NBA.

The postponement of the game is the second this season due to coronavirus infections after the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder were unable to play their inaugural match on December 23 at the Toyota Center in the Texas city.
