Roger Federer, absent from the circuit for a year, will return to competition at the Doha tournament, scheduled for March 8 to 13, he told Swiss television SRF. The 39-year-old Swiss player has not played since the Australian Open in 2020. He was then beaten by Djokovic, future winner, in the semi-finals.

Roger Federer, who will be 40 years old on August 8, had ceased all sporting activity since February and had undergone two knee operations. Last month, he gave up, for the first time in his career, to play the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament, which starts on February 8 in Melbourne, where he gleaned six of his twenty titles in Grand Slam.

The top 100 veteran, still 5th in the world, holds the majority of his sport’s records. He’s won everything except the Olympic gold in singles (he won doubles gold with Stan Wawrinka in Beijing in 2008 and singles silver in London in 2012).

But since his record-breaking 20th Grand Slam title in Australia in early 2018, he has only played one major final, in 2019 in his Wimbledon garden, where he had two match points against Novak Djokovic before s ’tilt.
