Naughty Dog will no longer celebrate Outbreak Day after Covid-19 – Nerd4.life

Starting this year, Naughty Dog has decided not to celebrate theOutbreak Day. This is the date chosen to celebrate the universe of The Last of Us and coincides with the day that Ellie and Joel’s Cordyceps infection broke out in the United States. The similarities between the quarantine and the deaths of the game and what we are in these months due to the pandemic from Covid-19 prompted the studio to change the name and focus of the party: The Last of Us Day will be celebrated on 26 September 2020.

With a long message on Twitter, the studio explained its reasons, which are absolutely acceptable. After what happened in this 2020, especially in the US, where a lethal mix of coronavirus and protests over latent racism in the stars and stripes society has caused many of the apocalyptic scenes seen at the beginning of The Last of Us to come to life, the study headed by Neil Druckmann has decided to stop calling the celebrations of his most famous series Outbreak Day, or day of contagion, and to turn to a simple The Day of The Last of Us.

The date of September 26, however, will remain.

Here is the message:

Over the past 7 years, the September 26 has always been our opportunity to celebrate the incredible passion of The Last of Us community. However, thinking about the events of last year and the challenges we all continue to face as a result of COVID-19, it didn’t seem right to continue celebrating ‘Outbreak Day’. While the name and date are firmly established in the game’s history, September 26 now means a lot more than the lore date. This is the time we show our appreciation for our fans.

That’s why, starting this Saturday, September 26 will be known as the The Last of Us Day – a name that not only takes into account the real world around us, but also reflects the growth of the community as we welcome millions of new players who have arrived with The Last of Us – Part II. We have planned so many great things and we can’t wait to share them with you in the coming days!
