Thiruvananthapuram: Mani C Kappan, who quit the NCP, has announced a new party. Kappan’s new party is called the Nationalist Congress Kerala (NCK). The captain made the announcement at a news conference Monday evening.

Kappan himself is the president of the party. Babu Karthikeyan will be the general secretary. Zulfikar Mayuri and P Gopinath will be the vice presidents and Siby Thomas will be the treasurer. Various district committee office bearers have also been elected.

Earlier, Kappan, who left the LDF, had made it clear that he was joining the UDF. Kappan said he had informed the Front leadership that the NCK should be included in the UDF as a constituent party. The NCK is likely to seek three seats, including Pala, in the Assembly elections.

Mani C Kappan split with the LDF after failing to win a Pala seat in the Assembly elections. He was then expelled from the NCP.

Kappan had said that the LDF had done him great injustice and that he would join the UDF as a constituent party. He had earlier said that he was not thinking of forming a new party but later decided to form a new party. Meanwhile, leaders including KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran had demanded that Kappan join the Congress.

Mani C. Kappan had said that he would win Pala with a large majority again as part of the UDF. In Palayil, Jose K. Mani will be the LDF candidate.
