Natasja Froger in tears in Dutch celebrities in the Hospital

Natasja Froger (56) becomes visibly emotional in a new episode of ‘Celebrities in the Hospital’. When a nurse talks about her motivations to work in healthcare, the presenter fills up.

“Let’s just cuddle”

Natasha uses her lunchtime to learn a little more about her mentor Tess. She has been working in the hospital for 12.5 years. She comes into her own in the emergency room. “What made you decide to go into care?” Natas asks her learning coach. “My brother was disabled. He passed away. In hospital, out of hospital. My parents took very good care of him. (…) Then I thought: I find that interesting.”

“He really had a great time with us. Everyone was there for him. That ensured that I rolled into care,” says Tess. “He had Duchenne’s disease. A muscle disease. He was headstrong, but he was physically handicapped.”

“He really had a great life. And so have we. And that’s what it’s about.” Then tears flow down Tess’ cheeks. Natas sees it happening. “Oh my gosh, honey,” she says. “It remains a loss.”

Natasha wouldn’t be Natasha if she didn’t put her loving arms around Tess. “Just a moment. I know it’s not allowed, but we both have masks on and we’ve both been tested. So we’re just going to cuddle.” Tess continues: “It’s just nice when you can do something for the people.”

In her video diary, Natasja looks back on Tess’ story. “It’s great that you convert something so sad into something positive. By dedicating the rest of your life to care. She has such incredible care in her, but now I also know the motivation behind it.”

“That touched me very much. And it still does.” Then the tears also come to Natasha’s eye. “I’ve been able to breathe it out for a long time, but not now,” she says, sobbing.

In the same ward, Natasja also meets 12-year-old patient Damian. He has a broken arm and wants to have his plaster colored blue/yellow. “Because there is war in Ukraine”, says the young boy. The hospital only has blue and white plaster. So Natasha is put to work and may color the white part with a marker yellow. “I think it’s really cool that you’re doing this,” says Natas.

You can see celebrities in the hospital every Wednesday at 8.30 pm on SBS6.
