NASA Targets Untouched Regions of the Moon for Water Search Missions

Suara.com – NASA planning to hunt deep water misi Artemis which simultaneously sent humans to the surface of the Moon.

This week, NASA announced it would launch a rover Viper in the unexplored territory of Nobile in south pole of the moon.

Viper stands for Volatile Investigating Polar Exploration Rover and is targeted at visiting the western rim of Nobile Crater.

The rover will map the area and search for water, both above and below the Moon’s surface.

NASA describes the Moon’s south pole as one of the coldest regions in the solar system.

The Nobile region is home to many shady areas that are prime places to find ice. The solar-powered Viper will carry out a mission for 100 days.

The explorer can drill, collect and analyze samples.

Researchers hope that learning about water and other resources in the lunar region will help plan future manned missions to the lunar surface.

Reported from CNET, Wednesday (22/9/2021), NASA has long been very interested in ice deposits on the Moon.

Water is very difficult and expensive to transport into space, so the space agency is looking for ways to access the resources already on the Moon.

The Viper rover is planned to be launched in 2023 with the help of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.

The launch was carried out in conjunction with Astrobotic’s Griffin lander, which will escort the rover to the Moon’s surface.
