Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Efforts by experts to search for alien life outside Earth continue. In fact, the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) says aliens are believed to live not far from Earth.
“I’m sure we will find life on other planets. I think in our Solar System, we are so close but not 100% sure,” said research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Michelle Thaller, quoted from the Mirror, Sunday (17/9 /2023).
Thaller believes that what he is looking for from life outside Earth is on the planet Venus. As for the search for life, it is only a matter of time.
“I never expected Venus. Venus is now a place where we see something in the atmosphere that looks like it was produced by bacteria,” said Thaller.
Thaller’s belief in the existence of life on Venus is quite surprising. The reason is, the planet’s environment does not support humans living there.
The distance between Venus and the Sun is 67 million miles or 107.8 million km. This makes the surface temperature very hot, even reaching 475 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the distance from Earth is 41 million miles.
The atmosphere also contains toxic acid, which does not support humans living there. Namely, it consists of sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide which prevents heat from escaping from the planet.
Thaller’s hypothesis was also refuted by University College of London astrobiologist Dominic Papineau. According to him, liquid water needs to be found outside Earth to prove that life exists there.
“For chemical reactions related to life to take place, liquid water is needed. Therefore, to find life outside Earth, it is necessary to find liquid water and to find fossils outside Earth it is necessary to look for sedimentary rocks that have been in contact with liquid water in the past then,” he explained.
