As reported by the Everyday Star Sunday (28/6/2022), the rocky satellite with a diameter of about five kilometers (km) was found in orbit close to a small asteroid near the world Jupiter named Polymele.

Polymele is about 27 kilometers in diameter and if the orbiting item had been to be confirmed to be a satellite, it would be a single of the smallest moons at any time uncovered.
The moon was uncovered by the NASA team that carried out the Lucy mission by sending a spacecraft to the edge of the solar system to obtain data on several Trojan asteroids, which are two large rock clusters situated in Jupiter’s orbit.
“On March 27, Lucy’s science staff uncovered that the Trojan asteroid’s smallest focus on, Polymele, had its have satellite,” NASA explained in the report.
When it was discovered, the asteroid was struggling with a distant star, permitting scientists to accurately study the dimension of the place rock included.
They noticed the extent to which starlight was blocked by asteroids. As they did, they saw a smaller glance pass about Polymele.
