NASA finally managed to fix the Hubble Space Telescope

Suara.com – After a few months there was a technical error, NASA finally managed to fix space telescope Hubble.

“NASA managed to switch it to backup hardware in Hubble Space Telescope, including turning on the backup payload computer on July 15,” NASA said CNet, Sunday (18/7/2021).

It is known that the Hubble telescope has been operating for more than 30 years.

When the crash occurred, the team had noticed a problem with the payload computer, a device that had been in use since the 1980s.

Previously, NASA had made repair efforts for several days, such as restarting to reconfiguring computers and backup computers. However, these efforts were not successful.

“However, these tests have led the Hubble repair team to the conclusion that the main problem lies in the Power Control Unit (PCU), ”added NASA.

Like payload computers, the PCU is part of Hubble’s Science Instrument Command and Data Handling unit.

The PCU is responsible for supplying a constant and stable source of power to the computer and its memory.

Since Hubble crashed on June 13, scientific work involving the telescope has stalled.

Switching it to spare hardware is thought to bring the telescope back to life.

“Right now the Hubble Team will be monitoring the hardware to make sure everything is working properly,” NASA said.

On the other hand, Hubble’s successor, James Webb, is still on earth today. This telescope is likely to be launched in late 2021.
