Nantes qualified, setback for Chambéry

Largely victorious when they received Benfica Lisbon, in front of their supporters, for the first day of the group stage of the EHF European League (37-28), Grégory Cojean’s protégés managed to double the lead against the Lisbon team this Tuesday evening in Portugal (34-38). Leading by two lengths at the break (14-16), the H continued its momentum, still being held by its opponent, throughout the entire second half. Carried by a still decisive Viktor Hallgrimsson (10 saves), Nantes logically wins and secures its ticket to compete in the Main Round of the European League.

The confidence gained in recent weeks by the players of Team Chambé, with successes obtained in the European Cup and in Liqui Moly StarLigue, was not enough this Tuesday evening during the reception of Füchse Berlin. Facing the reigning champion, the Savoyards failed to create a surprise (31-36). However, Erick Mathé’s collective fought hard and did everything to hang on. Trailing by three goals at the break (14-17), Chambéry collapsed after returning from the locker room (14-20, 35th) but continued to play until the last minute. There was no third consecutive success on the European scene for Team Chambé this Tuesday evening.
