Mysterious push message: Why did Samsung send “1” to a number of cell phones?
A mysterious push message unsettled numerous owners of Samsung mobile phones this morning: the company sent an incomprehensible code using the “Find My Mobile” app.
Many users were amazed when they found a push message from the “Find My Mobile” service on their device in the past few hours. The Samsung app can usually be used to track down your smartphone if you misplaced it. In addition, the devices can be blocked, called or data stored on them saved.
Since yesterday, however, messages from Samsung users have been piling up worldwide that the app is sending them a strange message. The phenomenon also occurs in Switzerland.
US users complained yesterday
«I received an absolutely weird notification from Find My Mobile tonight. Everything it said was ‹1› » a user writes in the US community of Samsung. Thereupon a number of other users report, who feel the same way.
Nobody knows what the message means, some users are unsettled. The watson editorial team also received such news on their Samsung cell phones around quarter to nine in the morning. However, she did not open the app, nor was it possible to call up another page that would have revealed further details about the message.
The usual speculations are quickly appearing on the Internet: Has the “Find My Mobile” app been hacked and are cyber criminals trying to locate cell phones? No.
Samsung gives the all-clear
Apparently, users don’t have to worry about the message. Samsung writes:
“The notification ‘Find My Mobile 1’ was accidentally sent to a limited number of Samsung Galaxy devices. We can assure our users that this notification will not affect their devices in any way. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are trying to avoid similar cases in the future. »
