Mutations of Corona B117 Make Worries, How Do Covid Vaccinations?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Some time ago, Indonesia confirmed a case of the new B117 virus variant from England. To deal with this, one recommendation is to carry out a vaccination program as soon as possible.

In an online discussion the Head of LBM Eijkman, Amin Soebandrio, said that vaccination must be done as soon as possible so that the immune system can be formed before the virus variant changes its shape.

“Before the enemy changes, the immune system must be formed. At the same time, encouraging those who have had the opportunity to be vaccinated should not refuse again,” said Amin, quoted on Saturday (13/3/2020).

Although vaccination still has to be done, Amin reminded that the program is not a way to stop the pandemic.

According to him, after being vaccinated, the community still has to carry out health protocols. This is because it does not rule out the body can be infected with the virus again later.

“Vaccination does not necessarily stop the pandemic. Because after the vaccine is 100 percent immune it is not the case,” he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is known to be developing a domestic-made Red and White vaccine. The vaccine is carried out by a number of institutions and universities in the country, one of which is Eijkman.

However, according to Amin, the current existence of the new variant has not made the vaccine developed to change. Because until now there has been no recommendation.

The Red and White Vaccine currently uses a virus circulating in Indonesia that was present at the beginning of the pandemic. Amin also added that his party would make adjustments if there were recommendations to make changes.

“But if internationally there is a recommendation for the vaccine to be adjusted to the circulating virus, then we certainly have to make adjustments,” he said.
