Music: Zem-Zem, Miss Maya’s newborn baby

Burkinabè singer Miss Maya organized, this Saturday, August 15, 2020 in Ouagadougou, the release of her third album. Entitled Zem-Zem, the opus is composed of six tracks. The artist sings in an urban style on a traditional background.

Assétou Rouamba, whose real name is alias Miss Maya, has dedicated his newborn baby called “Zem-Zem” which means “slowly, gently” in the national language of Mooré. Following his first long play “Pang ya Wendé” in 2013, then the second “Poug-Paala” in 2017, the artist offers music lovers this third album. It has a total of six titles. The title Zem-Zem which is notably that of the register evokes human hypocrisy.


Miss Maya who proclaims herself “the lawyer for women” looked at the injustice suffered by women. She gives her voice to the fight against forced marriage with “Stop forced marriage”, sung with a reggae resonance. The singer admits to having come in part in the music to carry high the fight for the well-being of the other half of the sky.

The flavor of the opus, a traditional-modern taste with a rhythm of Moaga sounds. This desire to highlight her culture is for Miss Maya the opportunity to show the richness of our culture. “I want to show the world that we have talent in Burkina Faso. I am proud to be Burkinabè. My goal is first of all to convince music lovers in the country, ”she admits.

Also, according to his statements, the greatest number of his fans are partly in the provinces of Burkina. Hence his desire to make them “happy”. The singer has already traveled under other skies to raise the music made in Burkina Faso. She has been to Italy, Switzerland and Ivory Coast to name a few.

Two former singles of the artist, M’dole and Kadem Yel Lé come back to this new opus. Indeed, according to Miss Maya, these titles have not been boosted enough. “If I put these two songs, it’s for a reason. I had been traveling out of the country for a while. I didn’t have time to promote these singles. With my album, I want to make them known ”she emphasizes.

With Stop to Forced Marriage, Zem-Zem, Wend Dabo, Kadem Yel Lé, M’dole, or Wend Dabo Mix, the artist Miss Maya hopes to position herself more in the hearts of music lovers. The opus was produced for a year and a half. Printed in two hundred copies, Zem-Zem is available in stores at a price of 5,000 CFA francs.
