The body of a boy who has been missing since Monday was found in Morocco. He turns out to have been raped and murdered. The case had already sparked outrage for days because the police were able to quickly distribute video footage showing the boy accompanied by the suspected perpetrator.
11-year-old Adnane Bouchouf left his parents’ house in Tangier on Monday to get a medicine from a pharmacy. He never returned.
A day later, the police received images from a security camera. It can be seen that a man starts a conversation with the boy and disappears from view with him.
The images led police to a 24-year-old man. Yesterday he was arrested. He admitted that he took the boy to his apartment and that he raped and killed him. He also showed the police the place in a garden where he had buried him.

This morning three roommates of the suspect were arrested. The police are investigating why they did not report him, after a photo of the suspect distributed by the police was displayed everywhere. They risk jail time from two months to four years.
The main suspect can expect the death penalty, which in Morocco is the punishment for kidnapping a minor resulting in death.
Death sentences have not been enforced for years. In practice, death sentences turn out to be life imprisonment.
