A large part of the 370 municipal police officers in Toulouse will be on strike this Friday, December 1st. For months, they demand discussions with the town hall regarding certain social expectations. For lack of dialogue, they will stay at home on this first day of December.
National and Toulouse issues
Indeed, even if Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse and president of the “France Urbaine” mayors’ association, declares having written to the Ministry of the Interior to request an extension of the skills and responsibilities of municipal police officers , “the priority is not here”responds the defense union of municipal police officers.
The first professional union recalls that expectations are social, and bear “both on remuneration and pensions”and “the statements of the mayor of Toulouse sound like a real provocation and an attempt to force a pass, without wanting to study the social aspect of municipal police officers”. To allow agents to strike, notice was given from December 1st to December 31st.
In addition to national expectations, the agents of the pink city are also asking for better management of workplace accidents. “The processing times for files are too long”, according to Nicolas Roméro, senior brigadier at the municipal police and Force Ouvrière union delegate. According to the person concerned, the procedure, too long, would put certain agents in financial difficulty : “It has already happened that we have had to organize a collection to help one of us“, the policeman gets annoyed.
Another local problem, municipal police officers are also demanding compensation for public holidays worked. “We work seven days a week, and inevitably some days of rest fall on a public holiday. Before, we could get the days back, but that is no longer the case today”says the union delegate who announces 90% of strikers this Friday.
The response from the mayor of Toulouse
Present at the first “COP Occitanie” at MEETT this Thursday, the mayor of Toulouse spoke on the France Bleu Occitanie microphone. “We did a lot for the municipal police. I even know certain municipal agents from other services who find that they are spoiled children. So the logic of always more is not mine. We will look, but I am not sure that these are the requests of all municipal agents”, replies Jean-Luc Moudenc.
