Mouth masks are compulsory at several secondary schools

According to Het Parool these are the Amsterdam Lyceum, the Reformed Lyceum South and the Amstelveen Keizer Karel College. Also at the Mendelcollege in Haarlem, students have to wear a mouth mask from Wednesday, reports NH News.

‘Teachers asked for it’

Rector director Jan-Mattijs Heinemeijer tells the regional channel: “It will be a bit of a struggle, but as staff we will also wear masks. We will address students if they don’t.”

The school hopes to increase awareness of the corona virus with the masks. “And the safer feeling of the teachers. They really asked for this at our opening this morning.”

Not in the classroom, but in the hallway

The Amsterdams Lyceum has announced the new measure in a letter, according to Het Parool. Teachers and students do not have to wear a mouth mask during lessons. When changing class, pupils should take the shortest route and avoid contact with fellow pupils as much as possible.

In Amstelveen, the Keizer Karel College has introduced the same rule, as has the Reformed Lyceum South. “Because the corridors in the HLZ are too narrow to keep a distance of 1.5 meters, all employees and all students are obliged to wear a mask in the hall and in the corridors,” says a letter.
