Mother victim: ‘Where Orlando Boldewijn came, the sun started to shine’ | NOW

The mother of Orlando Boldewijn, who died in February 2018, made a victim statement in the court of The Hague on Monday. In it she criticizes suspect Roy B. hard. The man is suspected of having left the seventeen-year-old boy to his fate.

What exactly happened more than two years ago is still unclear. B. has not provided any insight into this himself, much to the frustration of the next of kin.

It is certain that the two had arranged with each other in The Hague via dating app Grindr. Together they spent the evening on the fishing island of B. in the Hague lake de Blauwe Loper.

Boldewijn was supposedly dropped off again around midnight, but continued to roam nearby. It is unclear why, but to people he encountered, he said to wait for Roy, possibly to take him back to his hometown of Rotterdam.

At some point Boldewijn ended up in the water. It is unclear how, but the Public Prosecution Service knows that B. has seen the victim in the water and at least failed to call the emergency services.

Justice draws this conclusion on the basis of known statements from B. to the police and people around him. In court, however, he retracted these statements and called the testimonials untrue.

He said he panicked that night, but he doesn’t remember what and why.

Victim was found after a tip from the police

It is clear to Boldewijn’s mother that B. has deliberately drowned her son. She said in her victim statement how bitter she finds it that the man has continued to fish in the pool that he knew Boldewijn was on the bottom.

The boy’s body was finally found on February 26 after a tip from the police.

MOTHER: Orlando was much loved

In the days when Orlando went missing, his friends launched a search. “I kept working during the missing hours because I went completely crazy at home,” said the mother. “I was working and in the meantime there were flyers everywhere at work with my child’s photo.”

Orlando’s mom shared how loved her son was for “his energy full of positivity.” “Wherever he went, no matter how dark the sun began to shine.”

The suspect responded by saying that he understood the pain, but that he has nothing to do with Boldewijn’s death. The sentence against B. will be pronounced on Thursday.
