FLY – The Russian embassy in Latvia has given a strong response to the request of the Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics to attack Russian territory.

The Russian embassy accused Rinkevics of instigating a “large-scale war” by urging NATO to allow Ukraine to use Western-supplied weapons to attack Russian territory.

On Tuesday, Edgars Rinkevics suggested, “We must allow Ukrainians to use currently domestically deployed weapons to target missile sites or airfields in Russia.”

According to Rinkevics, the US-led bloc “has no reason to fear” an escalation with Moscow.

Rinkevics’ remarks appeared in an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Bucharest.

The Russian embassy in Latvia responded to Wednesday’s (30/11/2022) statement by expressing concern: “It is not some crazy military expert who is calling for such measures, but someone high-ranking like the head of the Latvian diplomatic department.”

“What is this but an incitement to launch a full-scale war?” wrote the Russian embassy in a Telegram post.

The Russian embassy added that the duty of diplomats is to work for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
