Mortal Remains of Patriarch Neofitus Brought to Saint Marina Church in Sofia – Photos and Updates

They brought the mortal remains of Patriarch Neofitus to the Saint Marina Church in Sofia. Clergy from the Sofia Metropolis, led by His Holiness, have already gathered in the temple courtyard. The 12 Bulgarian metropolitans also arrived.

After the body of the patriarch is brought, there will be a requiem prayer and there will be a reading of the gospel. Senior clerics will bow before the mortal remains of the patriarch.

The body of His Holiness will remain in the Church of St. Marina until the Holy Synod decides where and when his funeral will be.

Saint Marina Church is located in the courtyard of the Sofia Metropolis. On prior information, the temple will be open for worship for the laity. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet.

A mournful ringing of bells rang out in the center of Sofia from all the churches in the surrounding area.

Adoration before the mortal remains began at 12:30 p.m. The members of the Holy Synod and senior clergy were present. Trisagas were performed – a word for the dead, as well as a funeral prayer. A little later, the doors of the temple were also opened to the laity.

At 2 p.m., there will be an extraordinary meeting of the Holy Synod, at which the date of the pilgrimage and burial of His Holiness must be determined.
