“Illegal trafficking knows no borders and effective measures are needed to combat this international threat, which is also one of PMI’s priorities. Illegal trade has a negative impact on legal business, state budget revenues, and also undermines PMI’s efforts to transform the company into a smoke-free future, ”said Alvis Žustiniani, PMI’s Vice President of Illicit Trade Prevention.

“The pandemic has also affected supply chains, border controls and cross-border cooperation, and now more than ever we need programs such as PMI IMPACT, which share experiences, bring together organizations, ideas and solutions to combat trafficking,” emphasized Žustiniani.

The involvement of innovation and technology in the fight against trafficking, smuggling and counterfeiting is particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, PMI IMPACT will also be open to projects aimed at limiting the threat of distribution of falsified and inappropriate vaccines, medicines, medical devices and personal protective equipment.

There are no territorial restrictions for project submission – the main condition is compliance with the topics of the third round of project financing:
1. Strengthening and improving border control;
2. Strengthening the capacity and capacity of institutions;
3. Strengthening the rule of law and protecting victims of crime;
4. Strengthening transnational and inter-institutional cooperation and raising public awareness;
5. Addressing the threat of illegal trade posed by COVID-19.

Interested parties can submit project applications for the third round of funding by:
• September 15, 2021;
