Monkeypox continues to have victims, Spain reports second death

JAKARTA, celebrities.id – Illness monkeypox or monkey pox in the world continues to grow until it causes death. Spanish is one or the country that recently reported the second case of death from monkeypox in Europe.

The Spanish health ministry reported that 4,298 cases have been confirmed in the country. Of the 3,750 patients informed, 120 or 3.2 percent have been hospitalized and two died.

Spain reported its first death on Friday (29/7/2022) shortly after Brazil reported the first monkeypox-related death outside Africa in the current wave of the disease.

Furthermore, it said the first death occurred in the northeastern region of Valencia. The cause is known to be encephalitis, inflammation of the brain associated with infection.

While the victim from Brazil is a 41-year-old man. According to the local health ministry, the man also had lymphoma and a weakened immune system.

“Comorbidities worsened his condition,” the ministry said, quoted by The Guardian Monday (1/8/2022).

Previously, the European Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday (30/7) said that monkeypox cases in Europe were considered to increase the number of deaths.

“With the continued spread of monkeypox in Europe, we expect to see more deaths,” said Catherine Smallwood, Senior Emergency Officer at WHO Europe.
