Mobilypod: shelters for innovative, ecological and solidarity-based electric bikes in Rezé (44)

With the explosion of electric bikes in the city, we must now find a way to recharge them in an ecological way. On the Nantes side, a local company, Nielsen Concept, has recently been testing a rather original bicycle shelter… And, above all, very ecological.

Nielsen Concept takes advantage of the “ Nantes City Lab »To perfect its innovative and collaborative project. They just installed the first Mobilypod, on the Trentemoult market square in Rezé (44). These bicycle shelters are innovative in their design and operation. Their raw materials: maritime containers and photovoltaic panels! Presentation.

The idea of the Mobilypod

Nicolas Salmon and Jane Nielsen, as a couple in life, noted that Nantes lacked electric bicycles when they arrived in 2015. By organizing surveys among residents, they realized that if electric bicycles were not present, it was more for fear of theft or by the lack of space to park them than by the lack of will.

From this observation, they came up with the idea of designing bicycle shelters to help develop this clean mode of transport. Nicolas and Jane want a positive project for the planet, but, also united.

Recycling and integration, the key words of Mobilypod

To build their bicycle shelters, they bought old maritime containers in Saint Nazaire. To transform the containers, they call on integration companies like Atoa in Vannes. The shelters are then covered with solar panels supplied by Colas. Thanks to this innovation, the company joined the Nantes City Lab. This allows him to experiment with his project.

Now the Mobilypod bike shelter sits on the Place de Rezé, it offers additional safety to users since the containers are closed. Users leave their bikes inside and can pick it up, charged a few hours later. An ecological and united innovation, which, we hope will be emulated everywhere in France!
