In the carriage of a train en route from Moscow to Vladikavkaz, the body of a mixed martial arts fighter from North Ossetia Georgy Gagloev was found. Several Russian media outlets report this with reference to sources.

The body of Gagloev without signs of life on the top shelf of the car was allegedly discovered by conductors during a train stop in Rostov-on-Don.

Gagloev, among other things, is known for actively looking for his aunt Rimma Gagloeva, who disappeared in Chechnya about a year ago. Gagloeva was engaged in fortune-telling.

Telegram channel “Baza” without links to sources writesthat Gagloev could have been strangled with a pillow in the car, and links his death with the search for his aunt.

The TASS news agency initially reported that the death could have been violent. Subsequently, with reference to the law enforcement agencies of North Ossetia, TASS published a message stating that “no signs of violent death were found on the body.” North Ossetian media Kryliatv.ru also denies version of the murder, arguing that, according to preliminary data, thromboembolism became the cause of Gagloev’s death.

There is no official information from law enforcement agencies yet.

Georgy Gagloev was looking for his aunt, Rimma Gagloeva. She gone in February 2022, together with a taxi driver who met her at Grozny airport and was supposed to bring her to Beslan. Gagloev argued, that in the department of the Investigative Committee for Ingushetia he was informed that the missing were in Chechnya in one of the police stations, but the department denies this. Gagloev also assumed that the car in which his aunt was driving was followed by another car, in which she and the taxi driver were taken back to Chechnya.

Later Taxi was found near the Ingush city of Sunzha. The personal belongings and money of the driver and passenger remained intact in it.

In a conversation with the editors of Kavkaz.Realii Gagloev accused in the kidnapping of the aunt of law enforcement officers from Grozny, linking it to the campaign to persecute fortunetellers in Chechnya: “My aunt removed the evil eye from children, she had many visitors from different countries – from America and Egypt to Russia. I admit that she Chechens came, and in order to knock out information about these clients, they took it away.”

  • Persecution of the occultists started in Chechnya in 2013 and resumed a few years later. The detainees, as a rule, publicly repent of their deeds and apologize on camera. In stories refer their activity to “more dangerous than terrorism and drug addiction.”
  • Apologizing video reports regularly appear on Chechen state television and on the accounts of local officials. To “humiliating video confessions” of residents of Chechnya converted attention of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom in its 2021 report. The authors of the study recommended that Washington impose sanctions against the Minister of Press and Information of the Chechen Republic, Akhmed Dudayev, who previously held the post of director of the Chechen State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Grozny.
  • Every year in Chechnya go missing 110 people for every 100 thousand inhabitants. This is four times more than the average for Russia.
  • The search for Rimma Gagloyeva did not give any result, despite the appeals of her nephew to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and to law enforcement agencies. At the same time, as the “Caucasian Knot” writes, a number of human rights activists doubted that Gagloeva became a victim of persecution by the Chechen authorities – she is not a native of the region, and her case was the first case of the disappearance of fortune-tellers in the republic in recent years.
