MIVB expects significant disruption to buses and trams tomorrow due to a demonstration in Brussels

After last week’s strike day, disruption is expected again tomorrow on Brussels public transport, this time due to a demonstration against European austerity policies.

Due to a national demonstration, there will be a lot of disruption on Brussels public transport tomorrow, Tuesday March 12. The socialist trade union ABVV is taking to the streets against what the trade union calls the “blind European austerity policy”. The union expects up to 2,000 militants, who will gather at Schuman Square around 11 am. Anyone who takes the bus, tram or metro risks experiencing significant inconvenience due to this action. The STIB advises its travelers to choose an alternative way to travel in Brussels that day.

The Brussels public transport company promises to communicate in real time about the disruptions in real time from Tuesday morning via its website, app, social media and the screens at the stops. In principle, the following lines are served: metro lines 1 and 5, tram lines 3,4,7, 8, 9, 18, 51 and 92. The frequencies will be lower than normal, can be read on its website.

The Walloon public transport company TEC also expects disruption because employees will participate in the demonstration. The Flemish public transport company De Lijn does not expect any inconvenience with its own buses. No strike notice was filed. Although it cannot be completely ruled out that there may be disruptions at De Lijn’s local subcontractors.
