FC Bayern opens new Bundesliga season in Bremen

Champion Bayern Munich opens the 61st Bundesliga season in Bremen. Vice-champion Borussia Dortmund starts with a home game. Even before the end of the first half of the season, the Bundesliga goes into the winter break.

The game schedules for the Bundesliga and 2nd division should not be published until Friday at 12:00 p.m. But appointments were already circulating well before that, so that the DFL had to react. FC Bayern starts with an away game.

The German Football League carefully orchestrates the release of its fixture list each season. Agency reports also regularly read about a “difficult puzzle” in advance and traditionally also describe how a Bundesliga game plan is actually drawn up (“The basis is the framework schedule, which … ) and what it all means concerns (“DFL uses specially developed software to create game schedules, which … ). Everything is rehearsed, the sequence is as simple as a roll forward. But this year, the DFL would have preferred to take a step backwards in terms of the schedule, without public display.

There are still a good four weeks until the start of the season in the 2nd division, the Bundesliga doesn’t even start until August 18th, but fans should already be served a first appetizer with the publication this Friday afternoon at 12.00 p.m. Actually. As early as Thursday afternoon, reports leaked out that 1. FC Köln’s games for the coming season had become public. Accordingly, FC should start at Borussia Dortmund. The DFL initially did not comment on this on Thursday when asked.

Prudently, because apparently there was a breakdown. The plan made the rounds too soon and saw the light of day. In fact, Cologne starts at BVB, on Friday at 10:54 a.m. that became a certainty. Because of the leaks, the DFL had preferred the publication.

In addition, Werder Bremen will open the new season on August 18 at 8:30 p.m. against champions FC Bayern. The Bundesliga summit between Dortmund and Bayern takes place on matchday 10 (November 3rd to 5th). The game days are now clear for the 2nd division as well. HSV and Schalke open the new second division season on July 28 at 8.30 p.m.
