Vice President Ma’ruf Amin Prioritizes Development of Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School

Jakarta

Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin wants to prioritize the development of Islamic Boarding Schools (Ponpes) Al-Zaytun rather than being disbanded because of the large number of students. Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII DPR Ace Hasan Syadzily agrees with this statement.

“Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School itself as an educational institution is an asset to the people. As an asset to the people, it would be a shame if it were removed. Therefore, if the issue being punished is a religious teaching that is considered deviant, then the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School needs to be fostered,” said Ace when contacted, Wednesday (5/7/2023).

Ace said that the public must wait for the legal process that is currently underway at Bareskrim Polri regarding alleged violations of teaching matters at the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School. The case is currently at the investigative stage.

“I think that regarding sanctions against the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, we must wait for the legal process which is currently still ongoing. We must respect the law,” he said.

“Let’s prove first that Panji Gumilang as the caretaker of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School did violate our country’s positive law,” he added.

The Vice President Wants Al-Zaytun to Be Fostered

Previously, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin revealed several alternatives regarding the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School. Ma’ruf said there was a possibility that the Islamic boarding school would not be disbanded, but training would be carried out.

Ma’ruf initially spoke about the legal process currently being undertaken by the leadership of Al-Zaytun Panji Gumilang Islamic Boarding School. Ma’ruf is still waiting for the legal process.

“Yes, first, right from the aspect of the violation, right now it’s being processed for the Panji Gumilang, that’s one thing. If there’s something later… I won’t get ahead of it, what kind of decision will it take later,” said Ma’ruf after the event Indonesian CSR Forum at Soehanna Hall, Jakarta The Energy Building SCBD, Jl Jend. Sudirman, South Jakarta, as in the recording from the Presidential Secretariat, Wednesday (5/7).

Ma’ruf said that there was input from the community for the pesantren to be disbanded. The government is currently still considering the fate of the students.

“So then the community really wants to disband this pesantren, close it down, but there are indeed considerations that there are a lot of students there, how big is that number. This needs to be fostered, it needs to be straightened out, the creed is straightened, the understanding is straightened out, what is the name of the national commitment straightened out later all of that, now it needs to be done coaching,” he explained.

Ma’ruf then revealed an alternative regarding Al-Zaytun. One of them is the possibility of not disbanding, but prioritizing coaching.

“So maybe some of the alternatives are not dissolved but built, built well, so that they can still run the pesantren, can study, but in accordance with the beliefs that are already true and also in our system, in the nation-state,” he said.
