Almost a week away having announced Esteban Lazo’s trip to Kenya With the aim of confirming the alleged death of the Cuban doctors kidnapped in 2019, the Cuban Foreign Ministry (Minrex) issued an official statement in this regard.
This statement ensures that the president of the National Assembly of People’s Power managed to obtain “sensitive information” that helps advance the clarification of the news released last week about the alleged deaths of doctors Assel Herrera Correa and Landy Rodríguez Hernández.

Obviously, the authorities did not give more details about what sensitive information they obtained, but they assure that it is currently being processed “by the authorities in charge of closely monitoring such an important investigation.”
In that sense, and with its characteristic lack of transparency, the Minrex promised to continue the necessary efforts with other nations to clarify the case of the doctors, who spent almost five years kidnapped.
The statement thanked the Kenyan government for its understanding “in this sensitive and painful matter.”
It is important to note that the official statement did not offer important details such as the nature of this “sensitive information.”
The authorities also did not speak about the possible steps that will be taken in case the death of the doctors can be confirmed, since it is difficult to believe that the Cuban government can recover their bodies from the hands of the extremist group that kept them kidnapped in Somalia by so many years.
At the moment, the only source that has reported on the alleged death of the doctors is a Telegram channel belonging to the same jihadist group Al-Shabaab, which assured that the doctors died during a bombing of one of its bases.
As “proof,” the note included a photograph of someone who shares a great similarity with the doctor Assel Herrera, but the veracity of this information remains unconfirmed by any official or trusted source.
