Ministry of the Interior works on the implementation of LGBTI public policy

This weekend, the Ministry of the Interior referred to the implementation of a public policy that guarantees the effective exercise of the rights of citizens who are members of the LGBTI community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex).

“The National Government is committed to defending and protecting the rights of all people. In Colombia there are no rights of different categories, colors or ideologies. At the Ministry of the Interior, we promote and guarantee the exercise of civil and political rights of the LGBTI sectors, we lead public policy that guarantees their rights, and we work to protect their lives, liberty, integrity and security, “assured the Minister of the Interior, Alicia Arango.

He added that “awareness and training sessions have been taking place with officials from the 116 municipalities of the department of Cundinamarca on the implementation of public policy, a task that will be replicated in the different departments of the country, as part of technical assistance to territorial entities “

The Ministry of the Interior assured that joint work has been carried out with the mayors of Medellín, Bogotá, Inírida, and with the Arauca, Caquetá and Cesar governorates.

To the aforementioned public policy, it is added that, as indicated in the National Development Plan 2028-2022, work is underway to build an LGBTI policy action plan with 21 entities of the national order, from which the ‘Technical Group for the Guarantee in the Effective Enjoyment of the Rights of LGBTI Persons’.

In the framework of the announcements referring to this social group, emphasis was placed on the reactivation of the Urgent Cases Table, from which it seeks to articulate and coordinate the necessary actions to deal with cases that violate the rights to life, the safety and integrity of LGBTI people.
