Ministry of Religion Closes Islamic Boarding School in Bandung After Teacher Rapes 12 Santriwati

Ministry of Religion (Ministry of Religion) handed over the legal process against the pesantren teacher who raped 12 female students in Cibiru, Bandung City to the police. The Ministry of Religion has also closed the pesantren after the police handled the case of rape by the teacher who is also the head of the pesantren.

“Responding to reports related to criminal acts committed by unscrupulous leaders of Islamic boarding schools in the Cibiru area, Bandung City, West Java, we have left it entirely to the police who have become the legal domain because every citizen has the right to get protection from the state,” said Plt. The Head of Public Relations, Data and Information of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Thobib Al Asyhar told reporters, Wednesday (12/8/2021).

Thobib said this case was handled by the police since 6 months ago. In response to the rape case, Kemanag then coordinate with related parties.

“The incident occurred in the city of Bandung 6 months ago where the West Java Regional Police together with the Provincial Ministry of Religion facilitated by the West Java Child and Mother Protection Service (KPAI) had sat down together to take steps,” he explained.

Thobib said that the Regional Office Ministry of Religion West Java has closed the pesantren after the incident. Until now, the pesantren is no longer operating.

“Together with the West Java Regional Police, we agreed to close or freeze teaching and learning activities at the Tahfidz Islamic Boarding School and until now it has not functioned as a place or means of education, both Islamic boarding schools and equivalent education,” he explained.

Transferred Student

Furthermore, Thobib said all students had been returned to their parents to be transferred to other schools. Meanwhile, the victims have been treated.

“The Ministry of Religion has carried out the results of an agreement with the Regional Police and KPAI so that all students are returned to the student’s home area and their education is continued to madrasas or schools according to the level in their respective areas, students who are victims are facilitated by the Head of Pontren and Education Communication Forum for Equality. (FKPPS) each district/city,” he said.
