Jakarta, InfoPublik – The government through the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) continues to pursue immunization coverage which is considered still lacking and has not reached the target, by promoting the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN) program.

During the last two years from 2020-2021 the coverage of complete basic immunization in infants has fallen drastically. There are more than 1.7 million babies who have not received basic immunizations during the 2019-2021 period.

In 2020 the immunization target is 92 percent, while the coverage achieved is 84 percent. While in 2021 immunization is targeted at 93 percent, but the coverage achieved is 84 percent.

The government is pursuing the lack of immunization coverage with the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN). Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said BIAN was an important moment to close the immunity gap that occurred.

“We must remember again that if we don’t close this immunity gap immediately, there will be an increase in cases and extraordinary events (KLB) which will become a double burden in the midst of a pandemic,” said Maxi on Tuesday (28/6/2022).

In addition, Maxi continued, it also has the potential to fail to achieve the target of eliminating rubella measles by 2023 and failing to maintain a polio-free Indonesia that has been achieved since 2014.

BIAN consists of two immunization service activities, namely the first additional immunization service in the form of giving one dose of measles and rubella immunization regardless of previous immunization status.

The second is catch-up immunization services, in the form of providing one or more types of immunization to complete the basic and advanced immunization status for children who have not received the age-appropriate dose of vaccine.

The implementation of BIAN is divided into two stages, the first stage is given to all provinces outside Java and Bali starting in May 2022. The immunization provided is in the form of measles-rubella immunization for ages 9 to 15 years.

Meanwhile, catch-up immunizations are given to children aged 12 to 59 months who have not had complete immunizations for OPV, IPV, and DPT-HB-Hib. Phase 2 will be implemented starting in August 2022 in the provinces of Java and Bali.

For measles-rubella immunization, targeting ages 9 to 59 months, and catch-up immunization is given to children aged 12 to 59 months who have not had complete immunizations for OPV, IPV, and DPT-HB-Hib.

To date, more than 11 million children have been immunized against rubella measles. In catch-up immunization, there are about 138,000 children for drip immunization, about 140 thousand children for injection polio immunization, and nearly 160 thousand children for pentavalent immunization.
