Ministry of Education starts hackathon for Thuringian school cloud | Thuringian Ministry for Education, Youth and Sport

The Thuringian Ministry of Education will start a hackathon to create applications and content for the Thuringian school cloud on Thursday (November 12, 2020). Thuringian teachers and other interested parties will develop tools for various subjects together with software developers until Saturday. These should be available to the schools registered in the school cloud as quickly as possible. The best results are awarded by a jury. The partners of the event are the Digital Agency Thuringia and the Thuringian Institute for Teacher Training, Curriculum Development and Media (ThILLM).

The patron, Thuringia’s Minister of Education, Helmut Holter, wishes the event every success: “More than 600 Thuringian schools are already using the school cloud, around 800 have registered. With interesting digital teaching materials, the Thuringian school cloud comes to life. “

The name hackathon is a word created from “hack” and “marathon”. What is meant is a collaborative software and hardware development event. The aim of a hackathon is to jointly produce useful and creative software products or to find other digital solutions.

The Thuringian school cloud was introduced at the beginning of the year. Also due to the Corona situation, it met with very broad interest among schools. In order to be able to use the school cloud effectively and profitably, applications and content must be provided. The hackathon serves to achieve the goals set in the Thuringian School Digital Strategy (DiTS).
