Ministry of Education Introduces Anonymous Self-Assessment Questionnaire to Identify Bullying Victims in Schools

“Are you afraid to go to school? Have you lied to stay home? Have you received insulting or threatening messages?” Here are some examples of the questions listed on the grid that students will have to complete, from CE2, during the month of November. This self-assessment questionnaire, anonymous and not obligatory, aims to“assess whether they are likely to be victims of school bullying”explained this Tuesday the Ministry of Education.

“Two hours of school time will be normalized for this purpose, between Thursday November 9 (date of the national anti-bullying day, editor’s note) and Wednesday November 15”, the ministry said in a press release. The Ministry of Education sent school heads three different questionnaires developed with experts and adapted to each level (CE2 to CM2, middle school and high school).

At school and on screens

Composed of 33 questions for the elementary level and 44 for middle and high school students, this questionnaire has four themes : “Before going to school”, “at school”, “on the internet or on screens” et “how do you feel ?”

Among the other questions asked, college students are asked, for example, if they have “been pushed aside in the playground by one or more students”if they eat “alone in the canteen”, if students “spread rumors about (them)” or have them “voluntarily jostled”. They are also asked if “photos or messages are circulating” on them without their consent, or if they have “struggle to do (their) homework”has “fall asleep” or have “stomach or head ache” because of what they experience at college.

This questionnaire, of which “the practical organization is the initiative of each school, middle school and high school, will be an opportunity to focus on the prevention and detection of harassment situations”, specifies the ministry. Students will complete this grid “priority” with their main teacher in middle and high school, it is specified.

In its letter sent Monday, the ministry also reminds school heads “registration required” of their school or establishment on the Phare platform, which coordinates the ministry’s anti-bullying program, implemented since 2019.
