The Minister of Health, Manel Balcells, urges the entire population to be vaccinated against Covid in the autumn, and not only health professionals and people at risk. This was stated by him yesterday in an interview with “El suplement d’estiu” on Catalunya Ràdio. The Ministry of Health recommends that the most vulnerable people and those who work in hospitals or social health centers be immunized, but the minister is committed to the general population doing so.

“In autumn, everyone to get vaccinated. Especially the elderly, the fragile, with pathologies and the professionals in the residences, ”she indicated. The State has acquired more than three million doses of the vaccine from the Catalan company Hipra, but Balcells made it clear that the immunization planned for the fall will be adapted to the new variants, so these doses will not be used.

“It is not planned to vaccinate with Hipra. It is planned to vaccinate with the vaccine recommended by both the WHO and international organizations. We will vaccinate with the most appropriate to the new strains.

Therefore, unfortunately the Hipra vaccine will not be useful for these new variants. That is the only truth, the rest is fake news”, he stressed. In Lleida and the whole of Catalonia, Covid infections have been on the rise in recent weeks and the new variant Eris has been circulating since June, although the minister called for the calm. The cases diagnosed in Primary Care in the Llano de Lleida health region have increased by 28% and 30% in recent weeks and are at December levels.
