RoeselareBig party Friday morning on the Polenplein in Roeselare in honor of the Day of the Youth Movement. Minister of Youth Benjamin Dalle (CD&V) and Mayor Kris Declercq (CD&V) dived together behind the turntable and quickly had the young people on their side.

After a year of absence, the Day of the Youth Movement could be celebrated physically again on Friday. In Roeselare this happened with a breakfast party on the Polenplein, under the appropriate name ‘We’re breaking free’. The youth council invited Minister of Youth Benjamin Dalle and Mayor Kris Declercq to get the day started musically under the guidance of DJ Tim De Bree. Mayor Declercq chose a separate opening number for this. “It is a remix made by JazzDee of the music of Roeselaar’s polyphonist Adriaen Willaert, a mixture of the latest from Roeselare and a portion of heritage,” explains Declercq. from

Color powder and firecrackers
The young people could only gain access to the festivities by showing their Covid Safe Ticket, but that couldn’t spoil the fun. The politicians pulled out all the stops with a portion of morning gymnastics to the tunes of Samson & Gert, while they danced the polonaise to Willy Sommers’ Let the sun in your heart. “It’s great to see so many young people partying together here,” said Minister Dalle. “As Minister of Youth, I can only be proud of that. Young people have often had to adapt to the changing corona rules, but today everything is possible again for the youth movements. You are the largest family in Flanders.”

The festivities went off without a hitch, although not everyone adhered to the rules. For example, despite the appeal of the Youth Council, color powder, firecrackers and alcohol could still be spotted on and around the Polenplein.
