The president of the Unitary Central of Workers (CUT), Bárbara Figueroa, expects that the new minimum salary that is being negotiated with the Government will increase from the current 320,500 gross pesos to $ 400,000, considering that this last figure is the floor set in the Emergency Family Income that was approved during the pandemic of covid-19.
Although officially the CUT has not yet put that amount on the negotiating table with the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, Figueroa explained on Radio Cooperativa that “what we do understand very clearly is that if today we are talking about a Emergency Family Income (IFE) that is not less than 400 thousand pesos, it would be very strange, at least, if the minimum wage debate tried to put down a level that is recognized in the IFE debate as a floor basic”.
“We believe that within this framework there are indeed horizons on which to work,” added the union leader.
It should be noted that the meetings between the CUT board and the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, began two weeks ago, since the current minimum wage is valid until September 1, which forces the Government to send a draft of law during this month.
