We have already written a lot about the lack of new consoles on the market (for example here), unfortunately there does not seem to be a dramatic improvement. However, the completely different approach chosen by both competitors to solve this problem is interesting.
Getting new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 is still a big deal.

While Microsoft is fully focused on the new Series S / X and discontinued production of the previous generation Xbox One by the end of 2020, Sony has announced that it will extend the life cycle of the “obsolete” PS4 by another year. They need less powerful chips, of which there is no such shortage, the production capacities of suppliers are then fully prepared.
It can therefore be assumed that the gradual transition to the next gene will be longer than the originally intended three years.
It is a great pity for both companies, because the interest in the new consoles is huge. More than 15 million Playstations 5 have been sold in the year since its launch, and almost 10 million Xbox S / Ss.
