Millimeters, seconds, sudden obstacles … Coincidences that have killed athletes’ lives

The disc had hit the carotid artery and affected the adjacent fine bones, requiring complex neurosurgery to repair the damage. Yaroslavl’s doctors had the necessary equipment, but they felt that the victim’s condition was too precarious, so the risk of surgery was too great. The most important task was to stabilize the hockey player’s health so that Timur could be transferred to the capital. Arkady Rotenberg, the owner of “Dinamo”, would have helped to ensure this, but even the financial possibilities of the whole world were not worth this time. On March 16, the young boy’s heart stopped beating.

Until now, it is not clear what turned the events of that day into such a tragic bed. The responsible services have promised to carry out an investigation, but there is no concrete answer yet. At the moment, it seems to have been a bad coincidence. This was also acknowledged by Timur’s father, who added that after such injuries, in principle, there is no chance to save a life. By the way, a couple of years ago, a similar fate befell only 16-year-old Alexander Orehov, a hockey player from Novokuznetsk – he was also hit hard by the carotid artery, and the result was fatal. In addition, Alexander even had a neck guard, which is mandatory for hockey players until they reach the age of majority.
