Maurice de Hond poll: Pieter Omtzigt would reach 23 seats with his own party | Inland

Maurice de Hond reports this in a new poll. He had asked the hypothetical question what people would have voted for if Omtzigt, who is on bad terms with the party cadres of the CDA, had left his party and had participated in the last parliamentary elections with his own list.

“That is, of course, hypothetical. If this had actually happened, there would have been a different campaign than now and there would have been other candidates who would also have been on that list. The main purpose of the question is to determine the size of Pieter Omtzigt’s following. So this is not only noticeable in his preference votes at the CDA, but also the voters who can be attracted from the other parties ”, says De Hond.

List Omtzigt would come to 23 seats, one more than D66 and more than twice as many as the CDA, which would be crushed with 9 seats. The VVD would lose two seats but still go ahead by far. Other parties would also submit. “It shows how volatile the electorate actually is,” said De Hond.

The question was also asked which formation would be preferred. VVD-CDA-D66-JA21 came out as number 1, but ‘here too we see the fragmentation again’.

‘Position Omtzigt, function elsewhere’

Pieter Omtzigt is at home with health problems after he was not very conspicuously present in the election campaign. Internally, the CDA is experiencing difficulties. In addition, it has become clear that certain parts of the political landscape – who or what, is unclear – want to get rid of him. An internal note from scout Kajsa Ollongren, who has since resigned, stated ‘position Omtzigt, function elsewhere’. It remains unclear from whom that request comes. In recent years, Omtzigt has acted as a critical watchdog in, among other things, the benefits affair, but also the MH17 case and other sensitive files.

“Disconcerting”, responded SP MP Renske Leijten. “Don’t they want to talk about a new cabinet? And about the content? And then it is about an elected representative and how they can play them away for a while. ” Omtzigt himself has not yet responded. His wife does. He let it be known that he does not consider not going back to the House.
