The liberal mayor of Iaşi Mihai Chirica claims that he does not understand why there is “such great upset” at USR PLUS for replacing Stelian Ion from the Ministry of Justice, considering that the appointment of prosecutors was a clear prerogative of the Romanian president, news.ro reports .
“What is so big upset if he replaced Stelian Ion? But what, there are no more competent people at USR PLUS?”, The mayor of Iaşi, Mihai Chirica, declared in a press conference on Tuesday.
He stated that the applause of Monday evening from USR PLUS from the moment of announcing the resignation of the ministers of this party was also seen in the PSD CEx when Dragnea was replacing his prime ministers.
“What do we do, we applaud that we are giving up? We saw this at the PSD CEx, when Grindeanu was replaced by Tudose. Let’s applaud when we do good deeds”, said Mihai Chirica.
The Liberal mayor stated that USR PLUS showed political “infantilism” and that no one from the PNL raised the issue of any USR PLUS ministry being taken over by the Liberals.
“The essence of this political conflict starts from the lack of loyalty that USR PLUS showed towards the PNL. The appointment of the heads of prosecutor’s offices was a clear prerogative of the Romanian president that the former Minister of Justice wanted to destroy. Is it more correct for the appointment to be made by the Minister of Justice and not by the President?
Asked if the current political crisis will affect local government projects, Mihai Chirica replied: “I don’t think so, the government is moving forward. How did I govern without deputy mayors? Did any Iasi resident feel a problem?”.
