Voters must choose the members of Congress who will sit in Congress in Washington and virtually all local assemblies, as well as the governors of 36 of the 50 states.
Like every two years, all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for grabs. In the Senate, which has 100 elected members, the term lasts six years. More than a third will be renewed on Tuesday: 35 seats.
Even though Democratic President Joe Biden is not in the ballot, this midterm election, the “midterm“, which has become a de facto referendum on the occupant of the White House. In more than 160 years the president’s party has only very rarely escaped the sanctioning vote.
These elections are also a life-size test for Donald Trump’s political future. The Republican billionaire, who is flirting with a candidacy for the 2024 election, has thrown himself headlong into the campaign, multiplying meetings across the country.
