Michael J. Fox Receives Standing Ovation at BAFTAs Despite Parkinson’s Diagnosis

Emotional moment at the BAFTAs: Michael J. Fox presented the award for best film and received a standing ovation from everyone present. The 62-year-old actor suffers from Parkinson’s and was wheeled onto stage in a wheelchair.

After being wheeled onto the stage in a wheelchair, Fox stood up and walked painfully to the furniture housing the microphones, which he then held on to. But before he could announce that Oppenheimer had won the Bafta for Best Film, he received a standing ovation that lasted a very long time. All the fellow actors in the room stood up and celebrated Fox. Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, among others, honored their colleague in London.

Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991. The actor, who starred in Back to the Future and Stuart Little, was only 29 years old at the time. He only made it public eight years later. In 2023, a documentary about his life and his battle against the disease was released.

Just before the standing ovation and the presentation of the award, he also appears on the carpet with his wife Tracy Pollan. Even then, a lot of attention was paid to him.
