After the Indian Wells tournament, it is the turn of the ATP and WTA tournament in Miami (March 25 – April 5) to be canceled.
The county of Miami-Dade, which was to host this Masters 1000 tournament, has instituted a state of emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus. He therefore prohibited the organization of large demonstrations.
This cancellation comes a few days after that of the ATP and WTA tournaments in Indian Wells (California) which were to start on Thursday. The first two very big tournaments of the season outside the Grand Slams – Masters 1000 for men and Premier Mandatory for women – were therefore canceled because of the Covid-19.
The ATP and the WTA, which manage the professional male and female circuits, could announce a suspension of the tournaments for six weeks, according to several media.
The ATP 250 tournaments in Houston (6-12 April) and Marrakech (6-12 April), the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo (12-19 April), the ATP 500 in Barcelona (20- April 26) and the ATP 250 Budapest (April 20-26). For the ladies, the tournaments in Charleston (April 6-12), Bogota (April 6-12), Stuttgart (April 20-26) and Istanbul (April 20-26) are concerned.
In addition, the final phase of the Fed Cup scheduled for April 14 to 19 was postponed Wednesday to a date “to be determined”.
