MG prepares for landing in Europe

A HISTORICAL BRAND – The MG is a historic English house known in the last century for its small sports cars (the famous MG A and MG B spiders). In 1994 the industrial group to which MG (Rover) belongs passes to BMW and, subsequently, in 2005, the brand is spun off from Rover and sold to the Chinese company Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC). At the end of 2007, NAC itself was taken over by the Chinese giant SAIC Motor, which plans a relaunch of the brand, also in Europe. This is how a new era of MG begins, almost diametrically opposite to the house that a few years ago was considered the quintessence of motoring across the Channel.

BACK TO EUROPE – The new ownership introduces new models to the market: the MG 6, MG 3 and MG 5 (some also sold in the UK) and in 2014 the MG GS crossover. The Chinese giant for the relaunch of the brand in Europe, as required by current market trends, last year presented the MG ZS EV, a compact electric SUV. In 2019 it also introduces the MG HS SUV, of which today it presents the version ibrida plug-in whose release on the market is expected by the first quarter of 2021.

RIGHT PROPORTIONS – The MG HS has a hybrid system consisting of a 1.5 turbo engine with 162 hp combined with an electric motor with 122 hp, for a total power of 258 hp, which allow acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h in 6.9 seconds. The CO2 emissions declared by the manufacturer are 43 g / km with a zero-emission range, driven by the electric motor alone, of 51 km. The car is a medium-sized SUV with proportionate shapes, fluid lines and seemingly well-finished details, potentially able to have its say even in the demanding European market.
