Mercedes draws a powerful weapon against Tesla

Mercedes-Benz is on track to introduce a new premium electric car that will compete in the luxury e-car segment with the best technology. One of its main advantages is the highly efficient batteries, providing a range of 700 km – something that gives it a direct battle with Tesla’s Model S.

The debut of the luxury sedan EQS is scheduled for April 15, and its appearance marks a milestone for the German giant, which has been criticized for the slow pace with which it is entering the electric mobility market.

Next year, Mercedes is expected to produce eight fully electric cars on three continents, chief operating officer Marcus Schaefer said in a telephone interview quoted by Bloomberg.

“We have improved the flexibility of all factories around the world so that we can produce hybrids, fully electric cars and fuel vehicles everywhere, depending on customer demand and individual market development,” Schaefer said.

It took us a while to prepare for all this, but now is the time to act.

Laboratory tests for EQS mileage show a range of 700 km on a single battery charge. According to experts, this is another indication that German carmakers will still have something to show in response to the dominance of American Tesla.

More and more analysts are predicting an end to Elon Musk’s dominance. The major role it has played in the transformation of the automotive industry is undeniable. However, runners-up have lined up on the stage, claiming to displace the star.

Last week, Volkswagen AG announced plans to become the new world leader in electric vehicle sales no later than 2025, and BMW AG, meanwhile, expects battery car sales to account for about half of its shipments by the end of the decade.

Mercedes is in the midst of a “major overhaul” that involves a painful restructuring of its internal combustion engine equipment, on which the manufacturer has depended for a century.
