Meranti regent reprimanded by home minister after getting angry with Sri Mulyani’s men

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Interior Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian issued a harsh rebuke to the regent of the Meranti Islands, Muhammad Adil, on Monday (12/12/2022).

The warning followed a statement made by Regent Adil to the ranks of the Finance Ministry (Kemenkeu) at the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) for Regional Revenue and Expenditure Management in Pekanbaru some time ago.

Interior Minister Tito stressed that regional leaders must be ethical.

“As a regional head, whatever the issue, you have to use ethical language and show state ability,” Tito said as reported by the interior ministry’s press release on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs summoned Meranti Islands Regent Muhammad Adil to the Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta on Monday morning.

Adil’s arrival was received directly by the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Ministry of Interior Suhajar Diantoro in his office.

During the meeting, Suhajar was accompanied by the Director General (Dirjen) of Regional Financial Development (Keuda) Agus Fatoni.

Suhajar then advised Adil to maintain communication ethics.

Suhajar regretted that Adil’s attitude and statement were inappropriate for a public official.

As a public official, he said, Adil should be an example to the community.

“What is the concern and hope of the Regent of the Meranti Islands can actually be communicated and resolved properly so that it does not cause uproar in the community,” Suhajar said after his meeting with Adil.

Suhajar stressed that the interior ministry will not allow regional leaders to act arrogantly.

Regional leaders, according to him, must be able to maintain ethics even in speaking, even if they have different opinions or points of view with other parties.

The Interior Ministry does not hesitate to rebuke regional leaders who act outside the ethics that a public official should have.

“It is not justified to speak harshly. The Interior Ministry is very concerned and warns all regional leaders not to imitate behavior that actually tarnishes the government’s image,” said Suhajar.

He asked regional bosses to be able to maintain a demeanor, especially amid easy access to information.

The reason is that any word or deed that violates ethics can easily be known by the public and become a bad record for the government.

“Also, this commotion brought by public officials to other government entities is very unpleasant. Again, everything can be discussed and resolved properly and wisely,” Suhajar said.

Regarding the hope of sharing revenue sharing (DBH) funds, the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Director General of Regional Financial Development will facilitate further meetings and discussions between the Meranti Islands District Government, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), as well as other related parties.

“We will facilitate it so that issues regarding DBH can be resolved properly,” he said.

As is known, the regent Muhammad Adil criticized the finance ministry while attending the national coordination meeting on regional revenue and expenditure management in Pekanbaru last week.

In conveying his criticisms, Regent Adil said that the ranks of the Ministry of Finance contain devils or devils.

The Director General of the Regional Financial Balance of the Ministry of Finance Luky Alfirman also participated in the National Coordination Meeting.

Regent Adil expressed his anger as he deemed the distribution of DBH oil received from his region as inappropriate.
